Villa Padierna Palace Hotel: A Marbella Icon of Luxury
When I first visited Villa Padierna, the pink palace in southern Spain, I felt an immense sense of arrival—like stepping into a Tuscan palace. This exclusive hotel, opened in 2003 near Marbella, greets you with manicured gardens, cypress and palm trees, and an elegant atmosphere that feels like a fantasy. As a Traveller Made guest, I admired the art collection on the walls, from ceramic bowls, archaeological pieces, and engravings, to statues that echo Italian manor houses. The superb details, elaborate fountains, and the magnificent swimming pool gave an impression of Andalusia meeting Italy, though at times the illusion feels like a kitschy reproduction—a copy more than the original. Still, walking past the trees toward the sea, or spending hours on one of the 3 golf courses as a golf enthusiast, you forget the concreted environment and enjoy the historic charm of this tourist resort.
Luxurious rooms

The luxuriously appointed rooms at this 5-star hotel are spread across two buildings, each offering a bright, airy, and welcoming feel. Even the smallest option, starting at 42 m², feels like chic apartments in Paris, complete with a terrace. My stay in room 223 gave me a pleasant view of the golf course, though some buildings and cranes on the horizon slightly spoils the scenery. The King-Size bed was extremely comfortable, with a pillow menu, large desk, sofa, and a well-stocked mini-bar. Details such as bathrobes, slippers, a safe, and Acqua di Parma toiletries in marble bathrooms added to the comfort, while the Italian shower had a strong waterfall flow, making it one of the great hotels experiences I’ve enjoyed.
A superb 2000 m² spa

The hotel is known to highlight its immense 2,000 m² spa, a place where every golf fan or traveler can unwind in true Mediterranean lifestyle fashion. From medical wellness therapies to comprehensive wellness programs, I had the chance to show how even consultations with doctors and osteopaths can transform routine care into something deeply personal.
What impressed me most was the Slim & Detox program and unique treatments like the famous Michelle Obama facial, once enjoyed by the First Lady during her visit. The spa manager Ione Alkorta explained how energetic concepts from Chinese medicine blend with the therapeutic properties of nature to improve collagen production, skin elasticity, and overall vitality—perfect for the face, neck, and décolleté. It’s no surprise why the popular customers, including many Russians, return not only for beauty treatments but also for help to quit smoking.
Hammams scented with lemon and lavender

At Villa Padierna, the palatial ambience makes every visit to the spa unforgettable. As a guest, I once enjoyed a two hours session that began in the thermal circuit, moving through the hydrotherapy area, salt baths, and an indoor pool. The steam bath, Finnish saunas, and refreshing immersions were set at varying temperatures, preparing the body for deeper treatments and pure pleasure.
The highlight was stepping into a lemon-scented hammam, followed by an eucalyptus-infused hammam and a lavender-scented hammam. These hammams revealed their virtues, from aiding digestion and purification to improving sleep and breathing. Within just 15 minutes, I felt relaxed, almost intoxicated by the scent of essential oils. Resting later in the relaxation room, on comfortable beds with soft cushions, the experience was one of absolute relaxation. For hotel guests, entry can even be free of charge, though others may enjoy it starting from 80 euros—a small price for such complete spa serenity.
