Immigration terminal 3: Complete Guide to Arrival, Process & Tips

At Dubai International Airport, Emirates has rolled out a biometric system in Terminal 3 to speed up the journey for passengers. From check-in counters to departure gates, the facial recognition technology verifies identity in seconds, making boarding smoother.

Registered passengers can walk through Smart Gates in Concourses A, B, and C without needing a boarding pass, while cameras scan and link each traveller to the government database securely. GCC nationals, UAE citizens, and visitors with visas on arrival benefit from a contactless journey.

Emirates Skywards members can register via the official app, provide a selfie, and give consent to store data for identity verification. Self-service kiosks and biometric boarding gates in Concourse B lounge allow tens of millions of passengers per year to fly efficiently, enhancing privacy and security.

This system, developed in partnership with the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigner Affairs (GDRFA), trialled in 2017, has cost Dh85 million ($23 million) and is designed to manage data, allow consent withdrawal, and provide customer service for enrollment or troubleshooting.

Beyond Dubai, GCC airports like Abu Dhabi International, Hamad International Airport, Doha, and King Khalid International Airport, Riyadh, are integrating systems for facial-recognition e-gates, enabling residents, tourists, and passengers to enjoy self-service passport checks, boarding, and contactless journeys seamlessly.
