Alberta Ferretti Unveils Her Latest Couture Magic
Alberta Ferretti, the Italian designer known for her romantic gowns and delicate drapery, built an empire rooted in ethereal femininity. From her first boutique Jolly in Cattolica in 1968 to her namesake label founded in 1974, she shaped the essence of modern Italian elegance. Her floaty dresses, tulle, and intricate embellishments became symbols of timeless beauty.
At the creative helm of her eponymous brand for over four decades, Ferretti’s designs graced the runway at Milan Fashion Week, showcasing expert craftsmanship and a passion for Italian culture. Her decision to retire in September 2024, marked by a show at the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology in Milan, reflected a bittersweet nature filled with gratitude toward her collaborators like Peter Lindbergh, Steven Meisel, and Franca Sozzani, who were instrumental in shaping her vision.
Under the Aeffe Group, founded with her brother Massimo in 1976, Ferretti became an influential creative director and Vice President, guiding fashion powerhouses such as Moschino, Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini, and Pollini. Her business acumen and dedication to craftsmanship elevated Aeffe to a publicly traded company, expanding with Aeffe U.S.A. on 30 West 56th Street, New York City.
Ferretti’s collections from cocktail frocks and toga-like minidresses to hand-beaded gauze gowns—highlighted her devotion to the codes of her brand. Each design, whether mint green, white, or metallic, carried her signature layered look, twisting, and draping techniques that celebrated the female form.
Her contributions extended beyond the runway from the Women in Cinema Award to her recognition as a Cavalieri del Lavoro, and collaborations like Pure Threads by Emma Watson Alberta Ferretti, promoting eco-friendly materials such as recycled cashmere and organic cotton. With a foundation in elegance and a heart devoted to beauty, Ferretti’s legacy continues to inspire the fashion landscape and the broader cultural realm of Italy.
